Lightvessels in Ireland

Lightvessels in Ireland describes any lightvessel or lightfloat currently, or previously, stationed off the coast of Ireland. The Commissioners of Irish Lights are responsible for the majority of marine navigation aids around the island of Ireland.

Existing lightvessels

* Guillemot: built 1921/23 - sold 1968 - set in concrete as the Kilmore Quay Maritime Museum retains much original equipment and fittings
* Kittiwake: built 1955 - Currently (August 2007) serving at South Rock station at Strangford Lough Northern Ireland because the lighthouse was built too close to shore. Holds sentimental value with local people and sailors of the area.Fact|date=August 2007
* Osprey: built 1953/55 - sold 1975 - now known as Le Batofar, a nightclub/pub moored on the Seine in Paris [ [http://www.feuerschiffseite.de/SCHIFFE/FRANKREI/BATOFAR/batofagb.htm Osprey lightvessel data] (retrieved 2 June 2007)]

Lightvessel locations

* Coningbeg, off the Saltee Islands, 14 km from the County Wexford coast, was established in 1824 and replaced on 26 February 2007 with a "Superbuoy" [ [http://www.enniscorthyecho.ie/news/story.asp?j=25705 Enniscorthy Echo: "End of service for the Coningbeg"] (retrieved 3 June 2007)]
