Henry Alexander Douglas

Henry Alexander Douglas (1821-1875 [The Times, Friday, Dec 17, 1875; pg. 5; Issue 28501; col G "The Late Bishop Of Bombay.-The late Right Rev HA Douglas"] ) was the third Bishop of Bombay from 1869 to 1876 [”A history of the Church of England in India since the early days of the East India Company” Chatterton, E: London: SPCK, 1924] . Born into a noble family [ [http://www.thepeerage.com/p2064.htm Noble provenance] ] he was educated at Balliol College, Oxford and married in 1849. Vicar of Abbotsley, then Dean of Cape Town before his elevation to the Episcopate, he was a "moderate high churchman" [Times Obit (ibid)] . He died on 13 December 1875 and his papers published posthumously ["Sermons delivered by the Right Rev. Henry Alexander Douglas, Bishop of Bombay"William Wells Gardener, London: 1875] .
