Musical career

Career Beginnings (1997–2003)

Pretty Ricky began performing together in 1997 in Miami, signed to Bluestar Entertainment International by C.E.O. Joseph "Blue" Smith. Joe Smith is the father of the original 4 members. According to a 1999 story in The Miami Herald, the brothers were originally called Pretty Rickie & The Maverix, until the country group the Mavericks objected, and the brothers decided 'y' endings are "more masculine" than 'ie'".

Bluestars (2004–2005)

In 2005, it recorded "Grind on Me" and released it, and it got heavy airplay on Miami radio stations. "Grind on Me" was the number one most requested record in the history of radio station WPOW Power 96, which led to a deal with Atlantic Records and international exposure. After signing the deal, the song was re-recorded with familiar titles, "Grind with Me" & "Ride with Me", less explicit versions of their hit single, which led to their debut album Bluestars being released in May of 2005. It debuted[2] and peaked at number 16 on the Billboard 200 album chart selling 56,000 copies in the first week. The album eventually went Gold. The group then toured with Omarion, Bow Wow, Chris Brown, Bobby V, and other acts in the Scream Tour IV concert series.

Late Night Special (2006–2007)

Their second album, Late Night Special, was released on January 23, 2007, and sold over 132,000 copies in the first week topping the charts.[3] It remained #1 on the charts for 5 consecutive weeks. The album included the singles "On the Hotline" and "Push It Baby" which featured reggae superstar Sean Paul. The album eventually went Gold just like their debut album. After the release of Late Night Special, the group's singer, Marcus "Pleasure P" Cooper, left the group to pursue a solo career.

Pretty Ricky (2008-2009)

In 2009, Pretty Ricky independently recorded and distributed an album entitled Pretty Ricky, which was released on November 17, 2009. The album sold 10,000 copies in the first week and debuted at #97 on the Billboard Top 200.[4] Only two singles were released from the album, "Tipsy (In Dis Club)" and "Say a Command".

Bluestars 2 (2010–Present)

Bluestars 2 is set to be released sometime in early 2012. The album's first single off "Bluestars 2" was "Cookie Cutter" and it was released on iTunes July 27, 2010.[5] The second single, "Topless", was released on iTunes August 10, 2010.[6]
