Chasing Arrows is an American rock/alternative band formed in Newport News, Virginia in 2005. Their sound has beeen described as "The Wallflowers meets Mars Volta meets Coldplay." [ [http://www.rockeyez.com/reviews/demo/chasing-arrow/rev-transparent.html Rock Eyez Webzine: Chasing Arrows - "Transparent"- Demo Review ] ]

The band was founded by Nate Fender and Graham Todd after Fender had seen Todd perform at an open mic night at Christopher Newport University.

History

2005-2007: The Atlas Days

The band was originally called Atlas, and consisted of 5 CNU students Nate Fender, Graham Todd, Walter Pierce, Cody Zimmerman and David Brear. The band was an instant hit among the college crowd, and promptly recorded its first demo in one of the study halls in the dorm. Creative differences and clashing personalities led David Brear to split from the band in 2006, when then freshman Joe Hamm joined the ranks. That fall, the band recorded a 5-song EP which was never officially released, but the band had posted the tracks on their MySpace site. Playing around the state, and even winning a battle of the bands in New Jersey, the band was gaining some recognition. However, things really started picking up for the band in the summer of 2007.

2007-Present: Chasing Arrows

In the summer of 2007, the band submitted its music to mtvU for their Best Music on Campus contest. To the members' delight, they won the contest and the opportunity to open for Grammy nominee Plain White T's at Six Flags in Austell, Georgia. [ [http://www.da.wvu.edu/show_article.php?&story_id=33318&archive_date=2008-02-29 The Daily Athenaeum ] ] After doing some research and finding countless other bands by the name of Atlas, the guys decided to change their name, especially since they were going to expand outside of the Hampton Roads area. They wanted to keep with the Greek mythology theme, and chose the name Chasing Arrows because the arrow was the weapon of choice for many of the gods, namely Apollo, who was the god of music. But this would be the last show Zimmerman would do with the band, as he left the group to pursue a Ph.D. at Old Dominion University. [ [http://www.splashmag.com/arrows.html Splash Magazine - Issue Features ] ] Chasing Arrows advertised their need for a new bassist, and Damien Wade, who had shared the stage with Atlas before while in the Virginia Beach ska band The No Talent Show, responded enthusiastically. In the fall of 2007, the band decided it was time to record their new sound, and wrote and produced the 7 track debut album "Transparent." Taking full advantage of the ability to digitally distribute their music, they worked to get their CD up on various sites like iTunes and Napster. Chasing Arrows has received plenty of local press coverage, and is ready to take on the world and bring a fresh sound to weary ears.
