Contents

History

The station was opened on 8 October 1968,[1] as a replacement for the earlier Midland Junction railway station at a time when the main Eastern Railway was being rebuilt as dual gauge.[2]

The Public Transport Authority currently has plans for the crucial upgrade of the current Midland station.[3]

The Midland Redevelopment Authority (MRA) is also advocating the relocation of the station east to be line with Cale Street, the site of the original Midland Junction Station. The MRA is also seeking an extension of the Midland line to Bellevue, which would take on a primarily park 'n' ride function, to allow for land around Midland station to be redeveloped.

Platforms

The station has a single side platform used for regional services, such as the Transwa Prospector and AvonLink, and the Indian Pacific. Special trains, such as Spirit of the West, also use this platform. There are also two bay platforms used by services on the Midland Line.
