Paul Black (born 1957 in Hinsdale, Illinois [cite web |url=http://www.bookmasters.com/marktplc/rr01046.htm#author |title=Paul Black Bio |work=Novel Instincts website] ) is an American graphic artist, designer and writer of science fiction. He is best known for his near-future science fiction trilogy, The Tels.

He grew up in in the western suburbs of Chicago, Illinois. His passion for art and writing began early. By age twelve, he had advanced into adult level drawing classes. By high school, he had completed a book of poetry and his first novella. He attended University of Oklahoma where he earned a degree in graphic design and was a 2-time national champion gymnast. His first book, "The Tels", won Writers Digests Book of the Year for Genre Fiction, along with the Independent Publishers Book Award for Science Fiction [cite web |url=http://findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_m0RGT/is_2005_Sept/ai_n15387607 |work=Small Press Bookwatch |title="The Tels" review |date=September 2005] , as well as being a finalist in the Eric Hoffer Book Awards [cite web |url=http://hofferproject.home.comcast.net/~hofferproject/HAbookwinners.html |work=Eric Hoffer Awards |title=Eric Hoffer Book Award Winners] for Science Fiction and ForeWord Magazines Book of the Year for Science Fiction. His second book, "Soulware", was also a finalist for the Independent Publishers Book Award for Science Fiction and won second place in ForeWord Magazines Book of the Year for Science Fiction. Paul Black lives in Dallas, Texas.
