Persistent fetal circulation is a condition caused by a failure in the systemic circulation and pulmonary circulation to convert from the antenatal circulation pattern to the "normal" pattern.

It can be associated with pulmonary hypertension.cite web |url=http://www.medcyclopaedia.com/library/topics/volume_vii/p/persistent_fetal_circulation.aspx |title=Medcyclopaedia - Persistent fetal circulation |format= |work= |accessdate=] Because of this, the condition is also known as "Persistent pulmonary hypertension of the newborn".cite web |url=http://depts.washington.edu/nicuweb/NICU-WEB/pphn.stm |title=PERSISTENT PULMONARY HYPERTENSION OF THE NEWBORN |format= |work= |accessdate=]
