Adelardo Cattaneo (died before October 1214 or in August 1225) - Italian cardinal and
bishop . His first name is listed also as Alardo.He was canon of the cathedral chapter of
Verona .Pope Lucius III created him Cardinal-Priest of S. Marcello in the consistory ofMarch 6 ,1185 [ [http://www.fiu.edu/~mirandas/consistories-xii.htm#LuciusIII S. Miranda: Consistories of Pope Lucius III] ] (or in December 1183G. Moroni, p. 262] , or in 1184 [K. Eubel, p. 3] ). As such, he countersigned the papal bulls issued betweenApril 20 ,1185 andOctober 28 ,1188 [Jaffé Philipp, [http://www.wbc.poznan.pl/dlibra/docmetadata?id=70317&dirds=1&tab= "Regesta pontificum Romanorum ab condita Ecclesia ad annum post Christum natum MCXCVIII"] , Berlin 1851, p. 835, 854, 866 and 870 ] . Miranda: Papal elections of XII century] ] . In the pontificate ofPope Clement III he served aspapal legate in theHoly Land . Towards the end of 1188 he was electedbishop of Verona ; he was confirmed by Clement III and took possession of the see in the following year. At that time he resigned his titular church of S. Marcello, but retained his cardinalate and signed the documents as "Cardinal-Priest of the Holy Roman Church, humble bishop of Verona".Date of his death is uncertain. According to
Konrad Eubel he died as bishop of Verona in 1214, beforeOctober 13 , when his successor was elected [K. Eubel, p. 522] .Pius Bonifacius Gams indicates that he resigned the see of Verona in 1214 and died in August 1225 [P. B. Gams, p. 806] .Gaetano Moroni says that he died ca. 1212 and was buried in the church of Saint Zeno in Verona. In any case, he is not listed among participants of thepapal election, 1216 [K.
