=History=

It was in the year 1795 when the town of Camaligan was converted from a simple barrio to a thriving town. This event took place during the administration of Bishop Domingo Collantes of Nueva Caceres, presently Naga City .

The administration appointed Fray Rafael de Bonavente to head the diocese who was actually the first parish priest. It likewise declared St. Anthony of Padua as the town's patron saint and made June 13 as the date of its celebration of the fiesta.

Camaligan gained large population which were mostly farmers although some others were merchants. Because of the town's nearness to the river, fishing was a major engagement of the residents.

The government probably took notice of the town's advantage in the fishing industry when it opened the Fishing Port in December 28, 1990 by then President Corazon Aquino.

Camaligan is a 5th class municipality in the province of Camarines Sur, Philippines. According to the 2000 census, it has a population of 19,188 people in 3,432 households.
