Government of Calabria

The Regional Government of Calabria ("Giunta Regionale della Calabria") is presided by the President of the Region ("Presidente della Regione"), who is elected for a five-year term, and is composed by the President and the Ministers ("Assessori"), who are currently 11, including a Vice President.

Current composition

The government led by Agazio Loiero is in charge since April 2008, but has suffered several reshuffles and also party changes. Loiero himself, originally a member of Democracy is Freedom – The Daisy (DL), started his own party in 2006, the Southern Democratic Party (PDM).

After the merger of DL and PDM with the Democrats of the Left to form the regional Democratic Party, the practical disbandament of UDEUR Populars in the Region and the dismissal of the sole Minister of the Communist Refoundation Party (Egidio Masella, who later switched to The People of Freedom [ [http://calabria.indymedia.org/article/2017&comment_limit=0&condense_comments=false [ANSA Da Rifondazione a PdL: l'avventura dell'ex assessore Masella - Indymedia Calabria ] ] ), the cabinet is composed of four parties: the Democratic Party, the Socialist Party, the Party of Italian Communists and the Federation of the Greens.
