Interests Section of the Islamic Republic of Iran in the United States

Interests Section of the Islamic Republic of Iran in the United States

The Interests Section of the Islamic Republic of Iran in the United States is a part of the embassy of Pakistan in Washington, D.C., and is the de facto diplomatic representation of the Islamic Republic of Iran in the United States.

When the US and Iran cut diplomatic ties, both agreed to establish what are known as "interest sections" to look after their interests, with third countries serving as protecting powers. The US has an interests section in Tehran, which is part of the embassy of Switzerland. However, services for American citizens are limited. The section does not issue U.S. visas.
