- Feng Chia University
Feng Chia University (Chinese: 逢甲大學) is a
private university in Taichung,Taiwan . It was named after Chiu Feng-Chia (丘逢甲 - Qiu Fengjia), one of the leaders of the military resistance against the Japanese invasion of Taiwan in1895 .History
In the 1950s, some of the gentry in the central Taiwan area proposed to establish one more university in this area; accordingly the preparation was started. It was entitled Feng Chia College of Engineering and Business, to commemorate Mr. Feng-Chia Chiu (Qiu Fengjia). In 1961 the College was formally established near the Da-Tun Mountain in northern
Taichung City, and two years later moved to the present siteXitun in westernTaichung . In 1980 it gained university status, having overcome the difficult years of laying a solid foundation.Present
Striving continuously with perseverance for over forty years, the University has earned the reputation of becoming one of the most promising comprehensive universities in
Taiwan . The Ministry of Education evaluation for the academic year 2006-2007 awarded the highest subsidy nation-wide to Feng Chia University. Currently it takes around 20,000 graduate and undergraduate students yearly in its eight Colleges (Engineering ,Business ,Sciences ,Construction and Development ,Information and Electrical Engineering ,Humanities and Social Sciences ,School of Management and Development ,Continuing and Extension Education ). Its graduates of more than 150,000, working for governmental agencies and private enterprises, have contributed enormously to the overall economic miracle ofTaiwan .In the contemporary era of high technology and
knowledge-based economy , the acquiring and applying ofknowledge should be specialized, diversified, and multi-functional. FCU therefore has directed its construction toward renovating campus environment and facilities to cater for ane-learning era. The newly renovated digitalized MainLibrary adds to the traditional book-storing place with an activee-learning workshop. The new spirit of vitality is also seen in the establishment of many new innovative institutions, such as the Geographical Information System Research Center, theConstruction Research Center, theBusiness Incubation Center, the Office of Technology Licensing, theE-Commerce Research Center, and the Nano-Technology Research Center.----
