James Andrew "Jamie" Baldwin was a fictional character on the British television soap opera "Coronation Street". He was played by Rupert Hill.

Overview

Jamie is the son of Danny and Carol Baldwin. He was separated from his mother when Danny left her for new wife Frankie who had been Jamie's nanny. Jamie grew close to Frankie, and has a half-brother named Warren.

When he first appeared in 2004, the soap's directors considering him a 'sex symbol': in his early weeks on the show, he often took off his shirt. He started dating Leanne Battersby, left her briefly for Maria Sutherland, then got back together with Leanne. She then embarked on an affair with his dad. When this was exposed, Jamie broke up with Leanne and disowned Danny. Carol returned and moved in with Jamie and Frankie. He supported her during her attempts to give up drinking, but she repaid him by trying to destroy his relationship with Frankie.

Jamie's relationships

He failed in a rebound romance with Joanne Jackson because his mother's continuing problems dominated his life. After Carol schemed to break the bond between Jamie and Frankie by insinuating that they fancied each other, they decided to kick her out and Jamie finally disowned her.

Relationship with Violet Wilson

He then began a relationship with Violet Wilson after she was dumped by Jason Grimshaw. Violet eventually moved in with Jamie and Frankie, but Jamie's secret love for his step-mum affected their relationship.

Violet's first pregnancy

In October 2006 after a holiday abroad, Violet left Jamie and moved out. Not long after Jamie declared his love for Frankie. This proved to be the start of his problems, having kept their affair a secret for a while, Danny caught Jamie and Frankie in bed together, and the couple ended up fighting, and Danny nearly killed Jamie. After another confrontation between the couple later, Danny "signed" everything over to Jamie (albeit on a scrap of paper), and Danny disappeared. A week or so later in December 2006, Violet Wilson revealed to Jamie that she was pregnant with his child, a bombshell that was followed by another one, as Jamie revealed his affair with Frankie to a horrified Violet.

Relationship with Frankie Baldwin

In December 2006, Jamie and Frankie decided to start a new life together in Spain, but on New Year's Eve, when they were set to depart, Frankie revealed to Jamie that she couldn't go through with it. Frankie went to stay at a friend's in Essex.

Jamie used to work for Penny King at King's Robes, but quit his job to be with Frankie. He was unemployed for a while and grumbled about it to his uncle Adam Barlow one day in the Rovers. Steve McDonald overheard Jamie and offered him a job as a cab driver, which Jamie accepted.

One of Jamie's first fares as a cabbie was to pick a woman up from town. It turned out to be returning ex-girlfriend, Leanne.

Fire at the Peacocks'

In May 2007, one night at the end of a shift, Jamie went into Jerry's Takeaway to get a kebab and met with Kirk Sutherland, who had been depressed after splitting from his girlfriend, Fiz Brown. When they left the restaurant to go back to Number 7, Jamie and Kirk noticed Number 4 on fire and acted quickly, along with Roy Cropper and Jerry Morton, to save Claire Peacock and Freddie Peacock who was trapped inside.

Violet's second pregnancy

In 2007, Jamie expressed disapproval after finding out about Sean Tully and Violet's plan to have a baby, but eventually apologised to them for his attitude; however in Autumn 2007 he invited Violet to join him at his mother's wedding, and there was an obvious attraction between the former couple.

The couple got back together, moved into Number 12 and planned to raise Dylan - who was born in late February - together.

Moving to London

It was announced that the character would leave the Street in 2008.

On Friday 22 February, Violet gave birth. In the coming week the couple planned to flee the Street so that baby Dylan would and could be raised as Violet and Jamie's. They knew that if they remained on Coronation Street then he would always be seen as Sean's son.

The day that Jamie and Violet were due to leave Weatherfield, they filled up the car with their belongings and were ready to leave the Street without anybody knowing.

Violet also proposed to Jamie because it was February 29. He accepted and then left her to show off her new born for the last time.

However, Violet's sister, Lauren saw Jamie fill up the car. He said that he was going to a stag do, but his alibi was discredited when Lauren then saw him put in a babychair - she clicked what was about to happen and ran to tell Sean. Together they ran to stop the couple and his newborn son.

Violet and Jamie drove off, and Violet rid herself of her phone so that Sean could not get in contact with her and Jamie.
