A Suite of Dances

"A Suite of Dances" is a ballet made by New York City Ballet balletmaster Jerome Robbins on Mikhail Baryshnikov to four movements from Bach's "Six Suites for Solo Cello" (1720):

*"Prelude" from "Suite I" in G major, BMV 1007
*"Sarabande" from "Suite V" in C minor, BMV 1011
*"Gigue" from "Suite I" in G major, BMV 1007
*"Prelude" from "Suite VI" in D major, BMV 1012

The premiere took place in March of 1994 at the Baryshnikov's White Oak Dance Project; the City Ballet premiere was May 10 of that year at the New York State Theatre, Lincoln Center
