Frederico Gil (born March 24 1985 in Lisboa, Portugal is a Portuguese tennis player who competes on the ATP tour. He has a career-high singles ranking of #86 which he achieved in August 2008. He turned professional in 2003 and made his ATP tour debut in 2006 at the Estoril Open after spending several years on the "Challenger" and "Futures" circuits.

Career

In 2004 he appeared in three Futures doubles finals, winning in Portugal. In 2005 he won three Futures titles, at Portugal #1 and #3, beating Gerard Granollers-Pujol at both and Venezuela #5. He was also a doubles finalist at Bogotá Challenger (with Marcelo Melo) and Portugal #3 Futures.

In May 2006, Gil made his ATP debut in Estoril as a wild card and reached Quarter Finals, beating Luque and Tursunov along the way before losing to eventual champion Nalbandian. He then captured his first Challenger title in June at Sassuolo by beating Gorka Fraile. He also won two Futures titles in three final. In doubles he won Futures title at Portugal #3 and was runner-up at Milan Challenger (with Juan Alberto Viloca) and three other Futures events.

2008

In May, Gil won a Challenger in Sassuolo and then qualified into the 2008 French Open.

In June, Gil qualified into the main draw in singles at Wimbledon Championships, beating #165 Dominik Meffert, #289 Noam Okun, and #277 Hugo Armando.
