Education in the Czech Republic

"This article incorporates text from this source, which is in the public domain.] In 1996, the gross primary enrollment rate was 104 percent, and in 1995, the net primary enrollment rate was 86.9 percent. Primary school attendance rates were unavailable for the Czech Republic as of 2001. While enrollment rates indicate a level of commitment to education, they do not always reflect children’s participation in school. Ethnic Roma children attend school less regularly, and disproportionately attend “special schools” for mentally disabled or socially maladjusted individuals.

The Czech school system has four degrees:

* Preschools (from 2 to 5 yo)
* Basic (from 6 - 15 yo)
* High schools, grammar schools, colleges and training colleges
* Universities

The Education in Czech Republic is free, but there are some exceptions like preschools, which are paid by parents, only last year before entering basic school is free. There is also long-standing talk about paying for attending universities. However education is free the parents pay for textbooks, basic equipment and food if the child is attending school cafeteria. The state also pays health insurance for studying children up to 26 years of age.

Preschools

The Preschools are mostly attended by children from 3 to 6 years old. There is currently not enough preschools, because many of them were closed, because there wasn't enough money and children to attend during the 1990s, but situation now has changed.

Basic Schools

The Basic school has nine grades which are devided to two subdegrees. The first degree (grades 1 - 4) is what most Americans would call primary school and the second degree (grades 5 - 9), could be called secondary schools. In towns and cities are both degrees usually in one school, however some villages only have first degree and the older children have to commute to nearest town. There is also exception of grammar schools which attend children from five to thirteen grade. This type of school is usually meant as an escalator for universities.

Study on universities is unlimited and free, but after age 26, the attendant will not receive the student status from social services and state would not pay his health insurance while he studies.

History

The history of Czech education begins in 863 with invitation from Mojmír I. to Cyril and Methodius to come Great Moravia and serve liturgy in Slavonic language.

The big step in education happened 7 April 1348 when Charles IV. founded the first university in the central Europe in Prague.

In the Enlightenment the Habsburg emperor Maria Theresa of Austria (1740-1788) has made in law that every child between ages 6 - 12 is required to attend trivia school.stupid stupid stupid
