She is one of the founders and leader of the Neocharismatic church Igreja Renascer em Cristo". Sônia Ernandes is married with Estevam Hernandes and they have three sons: Fernando, Gabriel and Felipe.

Sônia Hernandes is known because of the nation wide concerts with more than 50.000 people, she is also the director of a radio station Radio FM.

In 2007 Sônia Hernandes and his husband were both arrested and sentenced to prison for smuggling cash to United States. she now lives temporary under court order in their own house in Florida, U.S.A.
