History

The pond itself was formed by Milo Burr in 1851 when he created a dam for power generation. The waterpower was used to operate a tannnery and three sawmills [1]. Six years later, the world's first condensed milk factory was created on the site by Gail Borden who went on to establish Borden, Inc. The factory was burned down in 1877 by a fire, but the stone foundations can still be seen off of Burr Mountain Road.

Burr Pond

Burr Pond, which was formed by Burr in 1851, is the center of the state park. The pond itself has several small inlets and islands. The shore is rocky and there are deep drop-offs in several places, but the pond only has a maximum depth of thirteen feet. Fish species present include Largemouth Bass, Chain Pickerel, Black Crappie, Yellow Perch, Bluegill, Pumpkinseed, and Brown Bullhead.

Facilities

The park includes a footpath around the pond, a beach, a concession stand, canoe and kayak rentals, and boat launch.
