Prostitution in Suriname is illegal but the laws are rarely enforced. [ [http://www.state.gov/g/drl/rls/hrrpt/2002/18345.htm] ] Since human trafficking is big business in the country. Extreme poverty pressurizes young children to prostitute themselves.
