Gregory G. Garre (born November 1, 1964Fact|date=September 2008) is the current United States Solicitor General. He spent his early life in his hometown of Barrington, Illinois. He received his undergraduate degree from Dartmouth College in 1987 and his law degree from George Washington University in 1991. Garre clerked for Chief Judge Anthony Joseph Scirica of the United States Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit, and then for Chief Justice William H. Rehnquist. He then went into private practice with the Washington D.C. firm Hogan & Hartson, from 1993 to 2000. In September 2000, Garre joined the office of the Solicitor General and in July 2004 returned to Hogan & Hartson. In September 2005, Garre returned to the Solicitor General's office as Deputy Solicitor General.

As Principal Deputy Solicitor General, Garre became Acting Solicitor General upon the resignation of his predecessor Paul Clement on June 19, 2008.
