Cambodia Baptist Union

The Cambodia Baptist Union (CBU, also known as the Cambodian Baptist Convention [John Mark Ministries: [http://202.6.52.14/articles/255.htm A First For Cambodia] ] ) is a national cooperative association of Baptist churches in Cambodia. Although Baptist missions have been noted in Cambodia since at least 1953 [cite book |title=In Search of Southeast Asia: A Modern History |last=Steinberg (ed) |first=David Joel |authorlink= |coauthors=David P. Chandler |year=1987 |publisher=University of Hawaii Press |location=Honolulu |isbn=0824811100 |pages= ] , due to the turbulent contemporary history of Cambodia, the CBU was only organized in 1995 as the Khmer Baptist Convention [cite book |title=Church Planting Movements (booklet) |last=Garrison |first=David |authorlink= |coauthors= |year=1999 |publisher=International Mission Board - Southern Baptist Convention|location=Richmond |url=http://www.imb.org/CPM/Chapter2-Khmer.htm |pages=28 ] .

In 1994, the Baptists co-founded the Evangelical Fellowship of Cambodia and in 1997, a Baptist Federation was created uniting churches that were planted by Southern Baptists and independent Baptists [Cambodian Christian Church: [http://www.cambodianchristian.com/church_history_p5.htm A Thumbnail Sketch of Evangelical Cambodian Church 1993-2001] ] and co-founded the Kampuchea Christian Council in August 1998 [Christian Conference of Asia: [http://www.cca.org.hk/resources/archive/assembly/11ga/newm.html#Anchor-Kampuchea-47857 New Members of the CCA] ] .
