First Immigration Wave from India (1890 – 1965)

* Turban Tide and Hindoo Invasion (sic) - xenophobia of new immigrants led by the Asiatic Exclusion League
* Bellingham riots - hundreds of white men form an angry mob and beat, loot, and forcefully evict Indian Americans from their residences.
* Ghadar Party Indian Nationalist organisation set up to rid India of the British Raj
* United States v. Bhagat Singh Thind - ruling that Indians should be classified as Asian and hence ineligible for citizenship
* Luce-Celler Act of 1946 - amendment to make Indians and Filipinos eligible for citizenship
