Haxby is a town in the unitary authority of City of York, on the River Foss, to the north of York and south of Strensall, in North Yorkshire, England.According to the 2001 census the parish had a population of 8,754. Prior to 1996 it had been part of the Ryedale district.

Originally a Danish settlement in the ancient forest of Galtres to the north of York, Haxby has grown to a community of nearly 10,000 people, most of this growth taking place in just the last thirty years.

Haxby is bordered on the east by the River Foss, and to the west by the village of Wigginton, another community that has seen tremendous growth in the last thirty years – so much so that the two now merge seamlessly into each other. To the south is the garden village of New Earswick and the north York bypass, to the north open farmland runs up towards the villages of Sutton-on-the-Forest and Strensall.
