The United Arab Emirates competed in the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, China. The country will send female athletes to the Olympic Games for the first time. Maitha Al Maktoum will compete in taekwondo, and Latifa Al Maktoum in show jumping (equestrian). The former is the daughter of Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Prime Minister of the United Arab Emirates and Ruler of Dubai.
