Valerian Vladimirovich Kuybyshev (also Kuibyshev; Russian: Валериан Владимирович Куйбышев); Born: Omsk, 6 June, (O.S. 25 May) 1888; Died: Moscow, 25 January, 1935) was a Russian revolutionist, a Red Army military commander during the Russian Civil War, and then a prominent Soviet politician.

During 1928-1930 he was Chairman of the Supreme Council of the National Economy, in 1930-1934 he was the head of Gosplan.

The city of Samara (the administrative centre of the Samara Oblast, Russia) and the town Bolgar (Tatarstan, Russia), and Haghartsin, Armenia were named Kuybyshev after him in the period between 1935 and 1991. The towns of Kuybyshev in Novosibirsk Oblast, Russia, and Kuybyshev, Armenia, still bear his name.
