History

MCI was established in 1987 by Roger Tondeur in Geneva, Switzerland were the company concentrated on providing services in Destination Management, Events, Meetings and PCO. Over the next 12 years, the company grew in size and reputation and gradually opportunities presented themselves to look beyond Geneva and continue expansion elsewhere. 1990’s

In 1999, the MCI Zurich office was founded. Not only did this provide geographical expansion, but the Zurich office brought with it expertise in a service that was new to MCI, namely Performance Improvement Programmes (PIP). After this, MCI grew steadily over the next couple of years with the acquisition of two companies based in Lyon – Transit Communications and Podiums. Transit Communication brought further PCO and meetings experience, whilst Podiums expanded Geneva’s Event Management expertise and added to the PIP. 2000 and Beyond

2002 saw MCI take a significant leap forward. The acquisition of Status Meetings in the UK was the largest expansion that MCI had taken unit then. MCI then stool at 132 staff and Status meetings employed 50 people.

In link with a strategy of growing across Western Europe and growing new competences, MCI saw new startups in Paris and Stuttgart, but most significantly was the acquisition of GIC Management in Brussels. GIC introduced association management to the company. Because virtually all of GIC’s business was in associations, it also led to the creation of the Institutional and Corporate Divisions. In 2004, expansion remained swift, with the Spanish start-ups in Barcelona and Madrid, the merger of the Paris and Lyon operations to form MCI France and the acquisition of Dorier, which added creative and Audio-Visual production to the product mix.

2005 saw the start-up of the Asia Pacific office in Singapore and the acquisition of Congress Partner in Berlin.

North American expansion continued in 2006 with the Global Partnership with SmithBucklin. MCI also opened offices in Dubai and Shanghai while consolidation in Europe continued with the acquisition of StoCon in Stockholm and SCSM in Zurich.

2007 was a stiller year that saw the start-up in Abu-Dhabi, Mumbai and Rome. The most significant of all was the merger of Ovation, which was re-branded into Ovation Global DMC and provided Destination Management to all of MCI’s offices.
