"The Sleepover Club" is a series of children's books by author Rose Impey, and a children's television programme based on the series. While the book is set in England, the television show is set in the Australian beachside suburb of Crescent Bay (a fictional place). The programme revolves around five young girls who are part of a club in which they sleepover at each others' houses at least once a week. The book and the vtv series are different to each other. The books are the real version.

Along with the everyday issues that plague pre-teen girls such as school projects, makeovers and boys, the members of the club also have to worry about their arch-rivals the M&Ms, Matthew, Michael and Marco, who are intent on spoiling the girls' fun.In the books the girls are 10 years old and live in Cuddington, Leicester, and the M&Ms are two girls named Emma Hughes and Emily Berryman. There is discontent with the perceived sexist approach to characterisation, with all male characters assuming the role of antagonists. This is believed to add to the innate social attitudes of society that imply girls are in fact a better-behaved sex, worthy of more trust.

The television show was produced by Wark Clements Burberry Production, in association with Rialto Films, with the assistance of the Pacific Film and Television Commission for ITV Network United Kingdom, Nickelodeon United Kingdom and the Nine Network Australia. It is distributed internationally by Southern Star Sales. Two of the actors who starred on the show went on to star in "Neighbours", but one, Eliza Taylor-Cotter, left the show in 2008.

The Sleepover Club

*Francesca (Frankie) Thomas (Caitlin Stasey) is the self-appointed leader of the Sleepover Club. Her ambition is to become an actress. Although a great friend to the girls, her bossiness becomes an issue on more than one occasion. She has a dog, Max who is a great friend of the sleepover club. She is best friends with Kenny. She wants a little sister. She also has a fear of blood. She still has a blankie she calls Woozie.

*Rosie Cartwright (Eliza Taylor-Cotter) is a young English girl and the newest member of the Sleepover Club. She and her family (her dad and Will, her brother) moved to Australia after the death of her mother. Her house is on the beach. Rosie is very smart and has plans for being a journalist just like her dad, who has written a load of articles for Crescent Bay. She currently has a fear of sharks, so the M&Ms played a practical joke on her because of it.

*Felicity (Fliss) Sidebotham (Ashleigh Chisholm), a young fashion purist, is in love with the cutest boy in school, Ryan Scott. She often tends to speak before thinking. In the show it is revealed that her father left the Sidebotham family three years ago, but that she is okay with it. She's got a fear of public humiliation. She has a plan with Ryan (her crush) when she is married to Ryan having two children, Ryan Junior and Rihanna.

*Kendra (Kenny) Tam (also known as Laura McKenzie in the book series) (Hannah Wang) is the sporty member of the club. She takes part in all sorts of physical activities from soccer to athletics and displays her affection for Manchester United F.C. She shares a room with her older and annoying sister Molly, and has a fear of heights. When she is older she wants to manage Manchester United.

*Lyndsey (Lyndz) Collins (Basia A'Hern) is the softest member of the group, especially with animals. She is best friends with Rosie. Her twin brother Michael is one of the M&Ms in the TV series. In the books she has four brothers. Lyndz is very creative and has an obsession for creative arts. She used to have a fear of bats. When she is older she wants to run a riding school.

The M & Ms

The group that the girls consider their sworn enemies consist of leader Matthew McDougal (Ryan Corr), Marco de Pieri (Stefan La Rosa) and Michael Collins (Blake Hampson), who is also Lyndsey's twin brother. They are always trying to destroy the girl's sleepovers. Matthew is the leader, Marco is just the dumb one that doesn't really ever get what's going on and he has a crush on Fliss and has been shown as sweet occasionally and even Michael has occasional, fleeting moments of "goodness", like when he defends Lyndz from Matthew and when he helps the girls in a debate. In the book, the M&Ms are actually 2 girls, Emma Hughes and Emily Berryman.

The Beach Hut Cafe owner

*Mr. Stefanopolis (Mr. S) (Vince D'Amico) is the Greek owner of the Beach Hut Cafe in which the girls spend most of their time. He frequently jokes with the girls and they are friends. He even hosts one of their sleepovers when his Greek niece, Nina, comes to stay with him. Mr. S is currently holding the title for the best pizza and smoothies in the whole of Crescent Bay for over six years.

The Teachers

*Ms. Nickels (Emma Skelton) is the girls' clumsy class teacher. During the show she shows interest in Rosie's father. In one of the episodes she acts as the girls' hopeless coach.

*Mr. Biceps (Peter Rasmussen) is the P.E. teacher at the girls' school. Due to his physical fitness the girls have dubbed him Mr. Biceps. His real name is Mr Bilton. He is also the girls' netball coach as well.

The Crush

*Ryan Scott (Craig Marriott) is Fliss's longtime crush and, according to her, the cutest guy at school. Fliss has many plans with him that she hopes to make a reality. Secretly he likes Kenny a little but Kenny hates him, unlike Fliss. It is towards the end of the first series that Fliss takes a dislike to Ryan and calls him a jerk after he insulted Kenny and lied to make himself look good.

The Siblings

*Callum Sidebotham (Trent Sullivan) is the younger brother of Fliss. He's always eating and thinks the Sleepover Club is silly.

*Molly Tam (Hannah Ling) is the mean older sister of Kenny. She wants to spoil every sleepover held at Kenny's house.
*Will Cartwright (Jaimie Stewart) is the older brother of Rosie. He is in a wheelchair and he plays basketball. He appears in episodes like "Happy Birthday Rosie", where he has a basketball match the day of his sister's birthday. He doesn't study in Crescent Bay because he is in the university. But unlike others Rosie looks up to him and he always keeps her smiling.

*Tom Collins (Timothy Mager) is the older brother of Lyndz. He plays in a band as the lead singer and guiter player called the Hut. Secretly all the girls think he is hot. He is a great surfer and Rosie is into him alot. He also goes to Cresent Bay high.

The Sleepover Club

*Charlie Anderson (Morgan Griffin) is the leader of the second generation of the Sleepover Club. The second generation of the Club started when her cousin Frankie gave her an S.O.C. book.

*Tayla Kane (Rachel Watson) is not the brightest of all girls. She is fashion-conscious and always listens to her psychic phone pal Zoe.

*Maddy Lee (Emmanuelle Bains) is the very competitive and sporty girl of the group. Her main interests are basketball and surfing and tries her best to always win.

*Brooke Webster (Katie Nazer-Hennings) enjoys photography and knows a lot about computers. Her best friend in the Sleepover Club is Jess. She has a stepbrother named Simon who is one of the Blockheads.

*Jessica Phillips (Monique Williams) is the artsy and shy one of the group she is very down to earth and hates to see animals locked up in cages.

*Robyn Harwood (Lola Sanchez) is the new girl in town who is half-in, half-out with the club. She doesn't have a best friend in the Sleepover Club, but towards the end of the season, she becomes good friends with Brooke.

The Enemies

*Krystal Beasley (Julia O'Connor) is a self-centred and bossy person that dreams of becoming a TV news anchorwoman. She is forever bossing around her only "friend" Caitlin. She appears to have everything but in fact is neglected by her rich parents. She always goes crying to "daddy" but seeing as her dad is always busy she only has Caitlin to push around.

*Caitlin (Ruby Hall) is always being walked all over by bossy best friend Krystal. Caitlin is a push over, but a nice one at that. She only listens to Krystal because she doesn't have many friends herself. The Sleepover Club think that she is really nice but she lets Krystal push her around so much that they even considered letting her into their club.

The Blockheads

*Jason Block (James Bell) is the brains of the Blockheads, and is always thinking of a plan to benefit himself. Jason is and will always be the enemy of the Sleepover Club. Jason and Charlie used to be best friends as kids because they are neighbours. It also seems like Jason likes Charlie but he doesn't show it.

*Simon Webster (Nathan Coenen) is the main deceiver out of the three as he always goes with his sister's mind rather than Jason's. He always gets the goss out of Brooke and gives it to Jason.

*Declan (Shannon Lively) is basically a normal guy, with a smaller IQ and often doesn't know what's going on during Jason's schemes but he still tags along for no apparent reason. Declan likes to eat a lot.

The Teachers

*Mr. Carrol
*Mr. Marrello
*Ms. Nixon

The Siblings

*Claire Kane

Character comparison

* Charlie has parallels with Frankie, as they are both considered the leaders of the Sleepover Club at the time of their membership. They are also related as cousins.
* Tayla and Fliss are similar, as they fall into the stereotype of the superficial girl with an interest in clothes and makeup.
* Maddy and Kenny are both considered to be the most talented at and interested in sports.
* Jess is considered to be the more creative and artistic member, similar to Lyndz in the last series.
* Brooke and Rosie are similar in that they are both considered to be the most intelligent and diligent of the group.
* The Blockheads are very similar to the M&Ms (Matthew, Michael, Marco).

*Brooke and Simon are step-siblings and Lyndz and Micheal were twins.
