The First Baptist Church of Tarrytown is a Baptist church on Route 9 in Tarrytown, New York. It is located directly opposite Christ Episcopal Church.

History

The cornerstone was laid in 1876, and the building was dedicated on June 14, 1881.

A parsonage was built south of the church in 1896 through the generosity of Mrs. William Rockefeller. Other gifts from members of the Rockefeller family strengthened the church’s spiritual work and enhanced its physical appearance.

1989 Fire

On December 23, 1989 the building was gutted by a fire that left only the steeple and the outside stone walls standing. Reconstruction was begun in 1991 and is almost complete. Because of the fire, the layout of the church was rotated 180° - the congregation faces the street entrance, which is no longer used.

The Present

Besides the English speaking congregation, the Spanish speaking Iglesia Bautista Resurrecion also meets in the same building. The church organizes Senior Luncheons, Vacation Bible School and other community activites in Tarrytown.
