Holden Lane High School is a comprehensive / community school located in Sneyd Green, Stoke on Trent, England. It was established in 1963 and educates pupils of ages 11-16. It became a specialist Sports College in 2001 and is the hub for the development of P.E. and school sport for both secondary and primary schools in the north of the city.

Situated in the north of Stoke-on-Trent, the school has a catchment from the neighbourhoods of Sneyd Green, Milton, Baddeley Green, Norton-in-the-Moors, and Ball Green. The socio-economic circumstances of the area the school serves are below average. The vast majority of students are White British.

Ofted Inspection 2008

The latest Ofsted inspection was on 25 – 26 June 2008. It rated Holden Lane High School as ‘satisfactory’ with several ‘good’ aspects, including personal development and well-being, curriculum and other activities, and leadership and management.

Academic standards

In 2006 the school’s GCSE examination performance was graded by ‘The Fisher Family Trust’ as compatible with the top 10 per cent of schools nationally, with over 63 per cent of students achieving 5 or more GCSE’s at the higher grades of ‘A star’ to ‘C’. In 2007 the school’s examination results fell back but, in the measure 5 or more good GCSE’s including English and Maths, Holden Lane is the top non-denominational school in the city.

chool Leadership & Management

For 17 years, the school was led by Mr. D. Gray. He retired in July 1996. Mr. P. Roberts, Deputy Headteacher, became Acting Headteacher for one term prior to Lynne Hardcastle's appointment in January 1997. Mrs. Hardcastle took early retirement in July 2006. She was succeeded by her Deputy, Mrs. Jacqueline Lewis. Mrs. Lewis has served the school in various capacities since September 1972 and will be Acting Head until the end of August 2010. ’Feeder’ Primary Schools & ‘Cluster’ Secondary Schools

Pupils at the school are drawn largely from Norton, Milton, Sneyd Green, Ball Green and Holden Lane Primary Schools, with lesser numbers coming from Newford (Smallthorne) and Greenways Schools.

Holden Lane High School is ‘Clustered’ with Birches Head High, Mitchell High, and Berry Hill High.
