Nava Telangana Praja Party

Nava Telangana Party (NTPP) was a political party in Andhra Pradesh, India. The party was founded by Tulla Devender Goud to achieve separate statehood for Telangana. According to the party the people of Telangana were being treated as second class citizens, due to lack of drinking water for in spite of having two major rivers (Krishna and Godavari) flowing in the region.

NTPP intended to contest the 2009 Andhra Pradesh assembly election in all constituencies of the Telangana districts (Hyderabad, Khammam, Mahbubnagar, Nizamabad, Nalgonda, Adilabad, RR, Karimnagar, Warangal, and Medak) together with like-minded parties with the objective of creating a separate Telangana state.[1]

Birth of NTP

Devender Goud announced the new party (NTPP) on July 11, 2008 in Hyderabad, along with flag, and its symbol.[2]

NTPP flag details

NTPP flag consists of a Telangana state regions map surrounded in blue color. Blue color was chosen to reflect rivers around the regions of Telangana state and also reflects the color of bird Indian Roller (Pala Pitta bird in Telugu language) which is regarded as most auspicious to watch on the occasion of Dasara festival by the people of Telangana .

Interior of Telangana region on the flag is chosen to be brown in color. Brown color reflects the color of earth or land. The Telangana region map on the flag also contains plough, spade, book, and torch in the centre to symbolize youth, farmers, workers, and students.

  • Torch symbol aims in creating political awareness and change the lives of the Telangana people.
  • Spade symbol stands for workers who are in distress.
  • Book symbol aims to spread knowledge.
  • Plough symbol to represent farmers of Telangana state.[3]

NTPP head office

Nava Telangana Praja Party head office was formally inaugurated on August 14, 2008 by Fatima Begum, mother of Shaik Fakir, belonging to warangal, who died during agitation for separate statehood of Telangana in 1968 at the age of 19, along with Venkamma, mother of Narsimlu who died in police firing at the age of 14 during agitations for a separate Telangana state.[4]

NTPP also paid homage to 369 people who lost their life during separate statehood agitation of telangana in 1969 and also felicitated activists who lost family members in the agitation.

Merger of NTP with PRP, TDP

On 26th Feb 2009, Goud announced that NTP was merging with Praja Rajyam Party, because of funds. He reversed this decision and merged his party with the Telugu Desam Party on 3rd August, 2009. When asked to comment on this decision, Goud has cited the reason for the merger as a thought taken from all his supporters[clarification needed].[5]
