History

First Affirmative Financial Network emerged from a company originally named Personal Financial Planning. Founded by Edward J. Winslow and Kevin Klotz in 1982, the company began offering socially responsible investment portfolios in 1988 when it formed a strategic marketing partnership with Co-op America. Ed Winslow registered Personal Financial Planning, Inc. as a Broker-Dealer with the NASD (now FINRA) in 1988. The name First Affirmative Financial Network was adopted in 1989, the year George R. Gay became Chief Operating Officer. The firm’s advisers registered with Walnut Street Securities, Inc. as their Broker/Dealer in 1990. From 1995 to 1999, the firm was owned by Walnut Street Securities. First Affirmative Financial Network became independent in 1999 and has been fee-only since that time. Registered with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), First Affirmative’s file number is 801-56587. George R. Gay is the company’s CEO, and Steven J. Schueth is the company’s President.
