Veniamin Vladimirovich Kostitsin

is an Austrian / Russian born artist. His oeuvre incorporates primarily painting, graphics and mixed media.

Veniamin Vladimirovich Kostitsin has enjoyed artistic training since early adolescence. Between 1964 and 1968 Veniamin Kostitsin studied at the "Grekov" Art College in Odessa, Ukraine (formerly USSR). In the years 1972 - 1978 he completed his education at the WGIK (All-Union State Institute for Cinematography) in Moscow, Russia as an art director. However already since 1973 the artist has chosen to pursue an independent path and has participated in a number of exhibitions. Already in 1977 his work was honoured by the Russian Academy of Fine Arts in St. Petersburg (formerly Leningrad) for his series "The Russian North" after he was awarded a prize for the series "Old Moscow" in 1975. Between 1975 and 1989 over 20 books for children with illustrations by Veniamin Kostitsin were published, some of them were also translated and published in English, German and other languages. Until 1989 Veniamin Kostitsin also participated in a number of art exhibitions in former Soviet Union with his work purchased by numerous state collections.

Veniamin Kostitsin was born in Krasnojarsk, yet he grew up in Norilsk as his parents relocated. In 1971 he moved to Moscow. In 1973 he married Svetlana Mikhailovna Teterina, an art historian. Their son Veniamin Kostitsin-Teterin is a photographer. [ [http://seen.by/veniamin-kostitsin-teterin Veniamin Kostitsin-Teterin on seen.by] ] Svetlana Teterina, a custodian at Polenovo estate museum of Vasily Polenov at the time introduced her fiance Veniamin Kostitsin to the art circles and the offsprings of the local nobility in Tarusa, Meshchovsk and Polenovo. Tarusa as a family seat of Teterin family has since plaid a significant role in the artistic life ov Veniamin Kostitsin and features prominently in his paintings between 1973 and 1987 a period when he was strongly influenced by Peredvizhniki, as well as being the original background for the fictional landscapes in the illustrations to the literary work of Russian writers of the 19th century.

Since 1990 Veniamin Kostitsin lives and works in Baden bei Wien, Austria.
