George Weiss (producer)

George Weiss (born April 9, 1921) is an American film producer who specialized in independent exploitation Z movies during the 1950s. He produced films such as Test Tube Babies, Racket Girls, "Girl Gang", "Blonde Pick-Up", "Hollywood After Midnight", and "Chained Girls". He is best known as the film producer to give Edward D. Wood Jr. his start by financing the exploitation film Glen or Glenda, originally conceived as a fictionalized story of the infamous sexual reassignment surgery of Christine Jorgensen. When Jorgensen refused to collaborate on the film, Wood wrote a new autobiographical script about his own struggle with being a closet transvestite and added stock film footage about sexual reassignment surgery.

Weiss was played by actor Mike Starr in the 1994 biopic Ed Wood.
