The One in Barbados, Part One is an episode in the long-running TV sitcom Friends. It is set in Barbados and is the penultimate episode of the 9th series of the comedy.

Plot

Ross is prepared to give a key-notes speech in Barbados and the gang prepare to travel with him. At the coffee house, Chandler tells David that Phoebe broke up with former boyfriend Mike (Paul Rudd) because he didn't want to get married. David therefore decides to propose to Phoebe in Barbados. However, Phoebe admits to Monica that she still loves Mike, so Monica tries to stop the proposal by calling Mike and asking him to come to Barbados.

Meanwhile, Charlie helps Ross re-write his speech after Chandler deletes it. There is sexual tension as they work together but pretend not to notice.

Just as David is about to propose to Phoebe, Mike appears at the restaurant. He proposes instead, though Phoebe declines, saying she didn't need a proposal. She does however agree to get back together with Mike.

David: (To Phoebe) The time we spent apart was unbearable. Of course, the sanitation strikes in Minsk didn't help.

David: (To Phoebe) Maybe if I hadn't gone to Minsk, things would have worked out between us. And I wouldn't have ruined my career. Or lost that toe to frostbite. It was a good trip.
