Marie of Valois (1309–1332), was the eldest daughter of Charles of Valois to his third wife Mahaut of Chatillon. Her paternal grandparents were Philip III of France and Isabella of Aragon, her maternal grandparents were Guy IV, Count of Saint-Pol and Marie of Brittany. She had two younger sisters - Isabella of Valois who married Peter I, Duke of Bourbon and Blanche of Valois who married Charles IV, Holy Roman Emperor.

Marriage

She married Charles, Duke of Calabria in 1323 when she was only fourteen years of age. Charles married Marie after the death of his first wife Catherine of Habsburg, Catherine had died without bearing Charles any children. Charles and Marie had five children:

* Eloisa (d. December 1325)
* Marie (1326–1328)
* Charles Martel (April 13 1327April 21 1327,)
* Joan I of Naples (1328–1382)
* Maria of Calabria (1329–1366), Countess of Alba. Married Charles, Duke of Durazzo.

Her eldest surviving daughter, Joan, became Queen of Naples and her youngest daughter, Maria, became Countess of Alba.

Ancestors

Marie died in 1332 at the age of only 23, her husband had died in 1328, Marie never remarried, her mother and two sisters outlived her.
