Ramji Rao Speaking is a comedy film directed by Siddique-Lal in 1989. Priyadarshan liked the film's interesting story and remade the film into Hera Pheri.

ynopsis

Balakrishnan (Saikumar) is an unemployed youth trying to pay back his (and his late father's) debt to Hamsakoya. He loses his job opportunity to Rani, who too has her own problems with family illnesses. Gopalakrishnan (Mukesh)is also unemployed and trying to make his old mother proud of him by saying that he has a good industrial job in Calcutta. They both reside in the house of Mannar Mathai (Innocent Vincent), an artist financially unable to start a career in theatre. As the three of them try to forget their problems with alcohol, a bandit named Ramji Rao mistakingly calls the wrong number claiming he has kidnapped the daughter of Uramees Thampuran. Seeing an opportunity for money, the three of them come up with their own plan to arrest the bandit and get the four lakhs of cash.
