Pyrokinesis

Pyrokinesis

The term pyrokinesis is derived from the Greek words "πυρ" ("pûr", meaning "fire, lightning") and "κίνησις" ("kínesis", meaning "motion"). It literally means "to move fire", but more commonly denotes the ability to create and/or to control fire using only the mind.

Pyrokinesis is present in many works of fiction, such as the Stephen King novel "Firestarter". Many fictional characters from comic books also possess this technique. For example, three of Nintendo's famous characters, Mario and Luigi (who has been shown to occasionally manipulate electricity instead), use pyrokinesis. Certain fictional characters, such as Marvel's Pyro, possess only the ability to control fire and cannot actually create it. Others, such as the Firebenders in the television show "", can not only create fire but manipulate it in a variety of ways such as creating explosions.
