The Gong Show with Dave Attell is the 2008 revival of the 1970s Chuck Barris comedy game show, now hosted by comedian Dave Attell. The show airs Thursday nights at 10pm on Comedy Central, between South Park and another new Comedy Central show, Reality Bites Back.

Show format

Faithful to the classic Chuck Barris format, each show presents a contest between amateur performers of often dubious talent, with a panel of three celebrity judges. If any one of the judges consider an act to be particularly bad, he or she can strike a large gong, thus forcing the performer to stop and eliminating that contestant from the competition.

If the act survives without being gonged, he/she/they are given a score by each of the three judges where the scoring has changed compared to the first two versions -- a scale of 0 to 500 (instead of 0 to 10), for a maximum possible score of 1500. The contestant who achieves the highest combined score wins the grand prize of $600 and a "Gong Show Championship Belt" trophy.

The last act of each show (which is interrupted by a siren and the doors closing) is usually performed by Dave Juskow.

Celebrity judges

Among the new show's celebrity judges so far are: J.B. Smoove, Dave Navarro, Andy Dick, Steve Schirripa, Brian Posehn, Ron White, Jim Norton, Adam Carolla, Kate Walsh, Triumph the Insult Comic Dog, and Greg Giraldo.
