Ben Ely

Ben Ely

Ben Ely (born September 13, 1970) is a musician and artist best known for his work with Brisbane punk band Regurgitator, a multi-ARIA Award winning group which formed in Brisbane in December 1993 and is still together after eight albums.

Recent Years

In recent years Ben has worked on other music projects [ [http://queenslandartgallery.com/exhibitions/past_exhibitions/2007/andy_warhol/andy_warhol_up_late/14_march] ] besides Regurgitator.

Jump 2 Lightspeed released a self-titled album in 2006 and featured Ben Ely on bass and vocals, Graeme Kent on guitar (later replaced by former Channel V presenter Steve Bourke), and Stella Mozgawa on drums.

Ely co-wrote the music to the 2004 Australian film starring Abbie Cornish, "Somersault", with Decoder Ring. The soundtrack won an AFI Award for Best Original Music Score and the song 'Somersault' won the 2004 Best Original Song Composed for a Feature Film, Telemovie, TV Series or Mini-Series Award at the Australian Screen Music Awards. In July 2008 completed his first official solo album with Ben Ely’s Radio 5 called "Transcending Reality".

He is also a successful practising artist and has exhibited work at The TAP Gallery in Darlinghurst, Sydney, and Flipbook Gallery in Brisbane.

Personal Life

Ben Ely has two daughters with Channel V presenter Yumi Stynes. A song they wrote for their eldest daughter, 'Don't Go To Sleep' appears on the soundtrack to the Australian documentary Bra Boys.
