Route description

The route begins in Gleneagle at SH 83. The route continues southbound and enters Colorado Springs, the city skyline can be seen from the interchange with Woodmen Road. The road crosses Sand Creek. At about twelve miles, the route crosses US 24, a major artery in the city, US 24 overlaps SH 21 for about 2 miles then US 24 heads west at Fountain Blvd. It then crosses 3 more roads then exits the city after the Hancock Expressway. It ends at Mesa Ridge Parkway in Security-Widefield. Since SH 16 is only 1.32 miles long, plans have been made to delete SH 16 and make the remnants SH 21 and have it go 23.5 miles.

History

The route was established on October 1, 2007.[2]When defined, its routing included the entire length of Powers Boulevard.
