The Michigan Department of Military and Veterans Affairs is a principal department of the State of Michigan. It oversees the military components and veterans services for the State. The military components are the Michigan National Guard (Michigan Army National Guard and Michigan Air National Guard) and Michigan Volunteer Defense Force[1] (MI VDF).

Joint Staff

The Director of the Joint Staff[2] serves as a primary adviser to the Adjutant General, responsible for the operating capability of Michigan's joint staff with regard to homeland security, homeland defense, and Defense Support to Civil Authorities. Key elements include:
