LDS Seminary

LDS Seminary

In the LDS Church, seminary is a class for students of high-school age wherein high-school students are instructed in their religion.

In areas with high concentrations of Latter-day Saints, the teachers work full-time and are paid by the Church. In these areas, students typically take seminary via released time. In most other areas of the world, seminary is not attended during school hours, but before or after school, or even on other days of the week. All teenaged members of the LDS Church are encouraged to attend seminary when it is available. The word "seminary", in a Latter-day Saint context, does not suggest a college program designed to train students that they may obtain a Church-based career.
