Rolls-Royce RR500

The Rolls-Royce RR500 is a small American turboprop engine being developed by the Rolls-Royce Corp. for use in small aircraft.

Design and development

The RR500 is a turboprop version of the turboshaft Rolls-Royce RR300 being developed for use in the Robinson Helicopter Company's R66, now under development.

Basic weight of the engine with accessories is 250 pounds (113 kg). The model produces around 400 shaft horsepower (298 kW) for takeoff and can produce 380 shp in continuous use. It will use jet fuel which is widely used, rather than the avgas which is commonly required for aircraft in this power range. It also will require much less frequent maintenance than piston engines of similar power.

A model of the proposed engine (which has not yet received FAA type certification) was demonstrated at the 2008 AirVenture in Oshkosh, Wisconsin.
