German order of precedence

The German order of precedence is a symbolic hierarchy of officials in the Government of Germany used to direct protocol. It has no official status, but has been established in practical use.

I. Inner-state occasions

# The President ("Bundespräsident"), currently Horst Köhler.
# The President of Parliament ("Bundestagspräsident"), currently Norbert Lammert.
# The Chancellor ("Bundeskanzler"), currently Angela Merkel.
# The President of the Federal Council ("Bundesratspräsident"), also acting as deputy to the President, currently Ole von Beust, Mayor of Hamburg.
# The President of the Federal Constitutional Court ("Präsident des Bundesverfassungsgerichts"), currently Hans-Jürgen Papier.
# The Government Leaders of the states (events on state level)
# The Federal Ministers
# The Governmental Leaders (events on federal level)

II. International occasions
# The Federal President
# The Federal Chancellor
# The President of the Bundestag
# The President of the Federal Council
# The President of the Federal Constitutional Court
