Once completed, it will be the new tallest building in the city, followed by the Lexington Financial Center [cite web | url = http://www.cptlex.com/faq.htm | title = CenterPointe website - FAQ | accessdate = 2008-08-05] , (known locally as Fifth Third, or Big Blue).

The project

CentrePointe is in the process of being constructed. Although no work on the building has started, the goal now is the demolition of the former buildings, including The Dame, and Buster's. The estimated time of completion is in the year 2010, in time for the 2010 FEI World Equestrian Games, which were the main motivation for the project.

Controversy

Before the construction of CentrePointe began, many local residents objected as it meant the destruction of a local hotspot called "The Dame". In July 2008, the Fayette Alliance — a coalition of developers, neighborhood associations and farmers — revoked its support for the building, due to an apparent reluctance on the part of the developer to work with concerned parties in addressing various issues concerning the development. In September 2008, the owner of the Dame announced it would reopen in a new downtown location. [cite web | url = http://www.kentucky.com/696/story/523969.html
