Cantemus Chamber Choir

Cantemus Chamber Choir

The chamber choir „Cantemus“ was founded in 1986, in Vilnius, Lithuania. The first concert was held on December 31, the same year, in St. Casimir’s Church. In a short time the choir became winner of many Republician competitions and was awarded the title of an “Exemplary Choir”. The Chamber Choir „Cantemus“ is conducted by its founder, composer, professor and teacher Laurynas Vakaris Lopas.

History

Since 1988 the choir participated in various international competitions of choral music and won awards and prizes: Bela Bartok’s (Hungary), Tours (France), Tolosa (Spain), Arezzo (Italy), Gorizia (Italy), Tallinn (Estonia). The choir both participated in the competitions and gave a number of concerts – and not once – Poland, Germany, Finland, Austria, Russia, Latvija, Norway and other countries.

The “Cantemus” choir is an active participant of the Church Choir Festivals in Marijampole and Siauliai, the vocal jazz festival in Panevezys, the festival of modern Jewish music, the concerts of Jeronimas Kacinskas music, and many other musical events in Lithuania.

The choir was the first performer of a number of big and small pieces of choral music by Lithuanian composers. The repertoire of the choir consists of about 300 items by over 100 composers.
