Total fatty matter

TFM (Total Fatty Matter) is a measure for grading the bathing soaps. The soaps would be graded on the basis of the fatty matter present in them.Generally soaps with TFM more than 80% are said to be of Grade 1, and those soaps with TFM more than 65% and below 80% are said to be Grade 2.For soaps the main ingredients would be the fatty matter extracted either from plants or from animals and fragrance, colour.Other than these most soaps contain sodium and potassium salts as the key ingredients. So, among these that gives out the frangrance and colour if the fatty matter is more the soap would be soft towards skin. The formula for soap is:

Fatty acid (oil) + Base (lye) = "A Salt" (soap)
