Establishment

Five of London's leading medical research organisations and healthcare providers are forming what they estimate will be the largest academic health science partnership in Europe. Their intention is to deliver improvements in health for patients in London, and around the world through translational research. The partnership will support an estimated 3,500 scientists, senior researchers and consultants. It will treat more than 1.5 million patients each year and have a annual turnover of around £2bn. UCL Partners intends to focus initially on specific areas, including cancer and heart disease, and deliver the benefits more rapidly to patients [Cite web | publisher = University College London | title = UCL Partners announced: audio interview | accessdate = 2008-08-08 | url = http://www.ucl.ac.uk/news/news-articles/0808/08080701 | date = 2008-08-07] .
