TIHUS - The International Hindi-Urdu Script

Successfully de-orphaned! Wikiproject Orphanage:

The International Hindi Urdu Script, TIHUS, is a transliteration system for writing Urdu/Hindi

TIHUS was designed to meet the growing need of speakers of Urdu/Hindi who enjoy reading in English more than in the Urdu or Hindi scripts.

This will enable speakers of Urdu/Hindi to communicate via the Internet using the English alphabet to read and write Urdu/Hindi whilst accurately representing the original script.

In contrast to transliteration systems designed for academic use, TIHUS has been designed for pedagogical reasons: Urdu speakers can use it to learn English and also to learn to read Urdu, their mother tongue.

The script has been used by first generation English speakers, whose parents are Urdu speakers, to participate in singing songs and reading texts otherwise unknown to them in written form.

It has also been used on the website Urdu-English Gospels [http://urdugospels.googlepages.com] . On the site the Urdu Christian Scriptures are available for download in Urdu, TIHUS and English.
