The Stable

The Stable is the name of an athletic training group located in Springdale, Maryland.

Origins

The Stable, is an athletic training group originally formed in Lanham, Maryland, in 1997 by Minnesota Vikings free safety, Madieu Williams (University of Maryland, College Park), Bryan Fitzpatrick (Towson University), Johnathan "JB" Gerald (Colgate University), Milton Harris (University of Maryland, College Park), Caleb Cranke (Bowie State University), and Christian "Ceelo" Robinson (Bowie State University). The name "Stable" stems from the running/plyometric workouts that are likened to build exceptional, thoroughbred athletes. 'We're horses, we can run all day," said St. Louis Rams rookie defensive back and Largo High graduate Andre Kirkland. [http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/players/content?playerId=10762] . The Stable used athletics as a means to keep themselves out of trouble and focused on achieving collegiate education. This became most effective during their summer off-season conditioning workouts, while under the direction of then DuVal High School track and football assistant, Henry Brady. The Stable would become a mentoring program for training young students into outstanding young athletes.

As the Stable made its way through high school, they began to enlist more members. The first two notables are Former Parade All-American and University of North Carolina football standout, Dominique Williams and his younger brother, Derrick. In 2005. [2] , while attending Eleanor Roosevelt High, Derrick Williams [http://gopsusports.cstv.com/sports/m-footbl/mtt/williams_derrick00.html] , became the nation's top high school football recruit [cite web| title = Rivals Top100 2005 | url=http://rivals100.rivals.com/viewprospect.asp?pr_key=22928&Sport=1 | accessdate = 2007-07-19] . He is now under the direction of Coach Joe Paterno as senior Wide Receiver at the Pennsylvania State University. In 2000, Brady joined the Largo High athletic staff where he recruited a new batch of enthusiastic students. Among them were, St. Louis Rams Kirkland, Usama Young [http://www.nfl.com/players/usamayoung/profile?id=YOU614589] , second year cornerback for the New Orleans Saints, India Ransom, former track star at the University of Miami as well as 2002 Star⁄Gazette Girls' Outdoor Track Athlete of the Year, and Dwayne Vaughn, the 1999 Maryland 100m state champion as well as and former stand-out sprinter for West Virginia University.

Currently located in Springdale, Maryland, the Stable continues to inspire and train the youth of their community. As many as 75 top athletes per session now make their way to the Stable to train and build endurance.

Founding member Johnathan "JB" Gerald is now an assistant quarterbacks coach at University of Illinois, while Bryan Fitzpatrick works strength and conditioning Penn State University Football. Both coaches still frequent the Stable to help encourage young athletes and run drills.
